2015 cricket world cup is just 10 days away and it’s obvious that every cricket lover would have made his/her own guess of who would win this world cup. Some of their assumptions might have been based on pure favoritism and some based on a lot of analysis.
Here is a shot of mine at the list of top 3 teams with better chance to win this world cup. I have made my own calculations before coming up with the list. Let us see how far my assumptions work out in the coming world cup.
AUSTRALIA
For me, Australia is the first choice team to win this world cup. I have not made this assumption just because this world cup is being played in Australia. Just a look at the Australian squad for this world cup and examining the potential of all the players is what made me choose this team. Top 11players who are to play are almost finalized and a back-up of 2-3 players who would get a chance to play in case of combination scenarios are all in top-form. The strength of this team lies in the number of top-class all-rounders it possesses. They bat deep-down, up to no10 or even no11, have around 7-8 bowlers who can bowl full 10overs and are an excellent fielding side. Their opening pair is stable; their middle-order is as strong as rock and their lower order has all the fire power to demolish any bowling attack. David Warner, Steven Smith, Johnson, James Faulkner, Starc and Glenn Maxwell are the players to lookout for in this team.
Looking at their performance in the recently concluded tri-series, I would be really surprised if they don’t win this 2015 cricket world cup.
SOUTH AFRICA
For me, South Africa has the next best chance to win this world cup after Australia. In fact, if I wasn’t scared of their chokers tag, I would have preferred them ahead of Australia. Just like Australia, South Africa too has a team consisting of players who are extremely talented. I have this gut feeling that this team might finally be able to rub off the chokers tag away from them this time. Their batsmen are in the form of their life, their bowling unit has it in them to make the most out of any pitch and their fielding is as good as ever. Hasim Amla, David Miller, AB De villiers, Faf and Dale Steyn are the players to watch out for in this team.
It is just a matter of 3 consecutive wins for them and this South African team has it in them to win this world cup 2015. Let us hope, they just do it this time.
INDIA
It might come as a surprise to many, but for me, India is the 3rd best team which has better chance of winning this world cup after Australia and South Africa. I have my own set of reasons for coming with this. They are the defending champions and they have experience of reaching there and cracking it. And moreover due to their poor show in the recently concluded tri-series, not many people are giving them any chance to win this world cup. This is a blessing in disguise for this young team as there won’t be much pressure on them to win.
Traditionally if we look at the history, India has a track record of performing well and surprise many when they are least expected to win any tournament. 1983 world cup, 20-20 world cup in 2007, recent champions trophy in England are the best examples to support my theory. If you take away the burden of huge pressure from the shoulders of this team, this team is capable of producing breath taking results. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Shami are the players to look out for.
India has set of players who are capable of winning a match single-handedly on a given day against any team. It is just that this Indian team has to find each of those three players to fire in each of those crucial final three matches.
Newzealand and Sri Lanka come next in the list but probably couldn’t make it big this time.
There goes my list of top three teams with better chances to win this 2015 cricket world cup. Hope at least one of them goes on to win this cup and prove me right.
