Roger Federer on His Way to Win Wimbledon 2016

Roger Federer beats Martin Cilic in what could be the match of Wimbledon 2016. Roger Federer has done something similar to what he has done many times in his career, that is come back from 2 sets down and win the match. Federer's record-tying 10th career win from two sets down makes him the oldest man to reach the Wimbledon semis since Ken Rosewall in 1974.With this win, Federer's 307th grand slam win, he has broken the record of most wins in grand slams. This win didn't come easy for the legend, three times Roger Federer found himself match point down in the fourth set but he bounced back with terrific composure and determination. It was his will to win which resulted in the outcome in this manner.

For the sheer commitment Federer has shown in this match, many would want him to win Wimbledon 2016, taking his grand slam trophies tally to 18. Wish he succeeds in doing that in style.

Maria Sharapova Tests Positive and Fails Drug Test

Tennis superstar and former world number one tennis player Maria Sharapova has called for a press conference and many expected her to either announce retirement or that she is pregnant. But what she revealed shocked everyone. Sharapova revealed she failed a drugs test at the Australian Open after testing positive for meldonium, a substance she has been taking since 2006 for health issues and has been suggested by her personal doctor. This Meldonium wasn’t a banned drug earlier but it was officially banned from 1st January 2016 by WADA.

The Russian star said "I did fail the test and take full responsibility for it. I was getting sick very often, I had a deficiency in magnesium, I had irregular EKG results and I had a family history of diabetes. I received a letter on 22 December from the World Anti Doping Agency for the changes next year and where the tests will be with a link to the changes for 2016 and I did not look at that list. I know that with this, I face consequences and I don't want to end my career this way and I hope that will have a chance to play again”. Now the entire world is eagerly waiting for the punishment she would receive from the sport authorities.

Following this revelation, TAG Heuer has ended partnership with Maria Sharapova, Nike and Porsche have suspended relationship with her.

Top 3 Reasons Why Nadal Won’t Be Able to Surpass Federer’s Grand Slam Titles Record

No doubt, every person who follows tennis keenly would have thought about whether Rafael Nadal will be able to surpass federer’s overall grand slam titles record or not. If he manages to do that, how long will it take him to break it and what will be his final tally? What are the hurdles on his way to achieve this? And a whole lot of other questions related to it. The following piece is what I think about this entire scenario and possibilities & difficulties.

So far Federer has won 17 grand slam titles overall whereas Nadal won 14. So, the difference between the two might appear as just 3 in number & less but anyone with enough knowledge about tennis would say that it is easier said than done. There is still a long way ahead of Nadal if he ever wants to break this Roger Federer’s record.

For me, it is almost impossible for Rafael Nadal to write this overall grand slam titles record on his name. He might still be able to prove me wrong but I came to this opinion based on the following points which I think would be the top three reasons & quite valid. Let’s have a look at them,

Age: Yes, you heard it right. Nadal is aging and there is no denying the fact that he too will face the difficulties which all aging sporting icons face. Some might argue that, there is still a lot of time left in him but my point is, in terms of performance levels there is difference between the time and prime time. Nadal too will face that. Federer too was only 28years old when he won his 14th title. Just do your own math to find how long it took him to win the remaining. Legs will slow down, reflexes will be a fraction late, energy levels won’t sustain for too long etc. If I am not wrong, all these factors do affect.

Injuries: we all know that Rafael Nadal is prone to injuries on a regular basis. His aggressive style of playing too a reason for these injuries of him. He already missed few tournaments due to injuries and nobody can guarantee his injury free career span from here. It’s always tough for any player to reach his prime after an injury and even if he manages that, it would take a lot time. Requiring to do that repeatedly is what which is going to be a biggest hurdle between him and this record.

Competitors: Rafael Nadal has been part of the greatest era of the game. Along with himself, his contemporaries Roger Federer and Djokovic are all time great tennis players ever to play this game. Because of their immense talent, together they managed to take the game to new corners of the globe. Coming to the point, Just like Nadal, both Federer and Djokovic are aren’t finished with their game yet. Federer might be at the end of his prime but Djokovic still has a lot left in him. Apart from these two, Nadal has tough competitors in youngsters who want to make their presence felt at the big stage. Nadal’s recent regular loses to some of these youngsters supports this theory. So passing through these youngsters and the likes of Murray, Federer and Djokovic for 3 or 4 more times would be a tough task for any player who is aging and prone to injuries.

Despite all these, I would be happy to see him prove me wrong as I have nothing against him. These are just my thoughts, some of you might agree and some might disagree. One thing is for sure, records are meant to be broken.

I Want Roger Federer to Win 2014 US Open

Now that Roger Federer has reached the semi final of 2014 US Open, am quite sure that many of his fans would love to see this legend lift the US Open trophy one more time. He is only two steps away from doing it right now and let’s hope he does that with ease.

Everyone who watched Federer vs Monfils match would agree that, Roger never appeared to be like a player of 33 years age. Majority might have thought that he wouldn’t reach semi final after seeing Monfils win the first two sets. But not Federer fans; they are used to and know pretty well that Roger can come back and win from any position. Preciously that is what happened by the end of the game. After losing the first two sets by 6-4, 6-3, Federer posted a strong comeback and won 3 back to back sets to seal his place in the US Open semi finals yet another time. During this thriller of a match, Federer successfully saved two match points and managed to win the 3 sets consecutively. This match was all about class vs energy. Gael Monfils too must be appreciated for his fighting spirit. He put up a great show. The final scorecard read 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, 1-6.

If Roger Federer wins this 2014 US Open tournament, it would be his 18th singles grand slam title and 6th US Open title. This would help him extend his own world record of winning maximum grand slam singles titles by one more. And if he wins this US Open, he would surpass Jimmy Connors and Sampras for most titles at US Open. Currently he shares the record with them with 4 titles each.

He is 33 and not many years are left in his tennis career. Like some millions of his fans, I too feel that Roger Federer should win this 2014 US Open title. It would be a fitting tribute to the greatest player of the game (Well, at least for me). All the best Roger, go and win it for us.
