Rohit Sharma, The 1st batsman to score two ODI Double hundreds

Before the start of today’s match, not many expected to see what they have seen by the end of the day. Just like many others, I too expected to see Rohit Sharma fighting it out with Ajinkya Rahane for the opening slot in upcoming world cup. Rahane’s success as opener in the recent past has made this contest for opening slot all the more important. Dhawan, Rahane & Rohit in good form & scoring runs at the top of the order is actually a good problem to have before the world cup.

As usual Rohit Sharma was cautious at the beginning of his innings & scored at a very less strike rate. Rahane was aggressive & looked good until he got out in his 20’s. Rayudu too was dismissed cheaply. Kohli and Rohit tried to study the ship from there & rotated strike without taking many risks. This continued until Rohit reached his 50.

Once Rohit Sharma got to his 50, the course of the game changed completely. He took more than 70balls to reach to his first 50 & took only 15 deliveries to score his fifth fifty of the innings. This transformation clearly shows how rampant Rohit Sharma was at the end of the innings. By the end of the innings, Rohit scored 264 runs in 173 balls & in the process he broke some world records of one-day international cricket.

. Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to score two double centuries in one-day internationals.

. Rohit Sharma broke the world record for highest individual score in ODI’s. The Previous record was 219 runs by virender sehwag of India.

. Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to score 250 runs in ODI’s.

. Rohit Sharma hit 33 4’s in his innings which is a world record. Earlier this record was held by Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag jointly with 25 4’s each in their double century innings.

With this stupendous innings, must say that, Rohit Sharma has almost confirmed his place as opener for the coming world cup. Now all eyes will be on Dhoni to see how he will proceed with the batting order for the coming world cup. Guess Dhoni will go ahead with Dhawan and Rohit as openers and asks Rahane to come at no.3 to bat. Virat Kohli’s success at no.4 too might play a role in Dhoni deciding with the batting order.

Whatever might be the batting order in world cup, Rohit Sharma’s innings today was something every cricket lover will remember for the rest of their lives. Some of the shots he played are still echoing in my ears and will do so permanently in Sri Lankan players and fans ears.
