Today’s India’s win over srilanka in the second ODI of the 5match series came without much resistance from srilanka. The mere total of 274 put up by srilanka on the board proved to be short by at least 60 runs in the end. India chased it down quite comprehensively without much difficult. Sri Lanka really needs to come up with some out of the box strategy if at all they want to make a comeback into the series.
The main highlight of the match was Ambati Rayudu’s hundred which was a result of calm and composed innings. He is a bundle of talent since his teenage. Back then, everybody thought that he would be a regular player in the Indian side in no time. But a bad decision by him to play ICL cost him at least few years of his international career. In whatever limited opportunities he got to represent India after that ICL episode, must say that, he did quiet a good job. It was always about grabbing the opportunity, there was never any question about his talent. Today he proved just that.
Captain Virat kohli must be appreciated for sending Rayudu at no.3 to bat. Rayudu is a slow starter, this position gives him ample time to settle down. He did just that today. Once he got his eye in, his strike rate increased to almost 100. He rotated the strike well and played big shots every now and then. He made sure that, he along with dhawan & later kohli, the asking rate never increased to dangerous levels. And in the process, he completed his maiden ODI century. With this century, he placed his bid very strongly for the place in the playing 11 for the upcoming world cup.
Rayudu is a player who goes on to play long innings if he sets in. Today he just reassured everybody of his talent. With 2015 world cup fast approaching and 3players namely Rahane, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu fighting it out for 2 places in the playing 11 is a good sign. Guess it all depends on the opponents, pitch and batting order requirements of that particular game in the end. Talent wise all three of them are at the same level. It is going to be a very tough decision and we all know that Dhoni isn’t afraid of taking tough decisions.
